Compton Pavement Reclaimed

prideinashbourne

A small subgroup of Proud of Ashbourne individuals have undertaken another radical clean-up of a small area of unclaimed land at the southern end of Compton, which having become overgrown with greenery, had attracted and trapped an enormous amount of litter over the years. Compton is one of the main approaches into Ashbourne town centre and this particular section had become an eyesore. The shrubbery encroached onto and narrowed the pavement significantly. The group set about the task of cutting back the greenery and removing the historic rubbish and litter from the site.

The removal of six sacks of bottles, cans and assorted litter, and a large amount of greenery later, the hidden pavement was revealed which has now been restored to its original width allowing easier social distancing for pedestrians, and giving a cared-for appearance to the shrubbery.

It was hard but satisfying work and many positive comments were received from the passers-by.
